Rathindranath Roy is an artist of Bhawaiya, a popular folk song in North Bengal, Bangladesh. He has sung many patriotic songs. During the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, Rathindranath Roy was a regular vocalist in Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. At that time he became known as a vocal warrior.
Rathindranath Roy was born in 1949 in the village of Subarnakhuli in Nilphamari district. He learnt music from his father Harolal Roy and PC Gomez. Rathindranath roy, sang on the radio at the age of eight and on television at the age of thirteen. He sang playback songs in Khan Ataur Rahman’s ‘Sat Bhai Champa’ when he was only seventeen years old.
Rathindranath Roy holds an MA in Bengali Literature from Dhaka University. As a cultural representative of Bangladesh, he has traveled to different countries of the world. He has won awards like BACHSHASH (Bangladesh Cine Journalists Society) Award in 1979 and 1981, and Ekushey Padak in 1994.
